Main Post Office & Vehicle Maintenance Facility
Pasco, Washington
As a regional distribution center, special attention was focused on the building's northern elevation where the public entrance identification was a high priority. In addition to the public service lobby, the 108,000 square foot main building houses a 3,000 unit box lobby, administrative offices, training and shop areas, enclosed mail handling platforms, a 47,000 square foot workroom, and an employee lunchroom. Public circulation patterns for vehicles and pedestrians on the site were carefully designed with minimal crossflow.
Public parking and pedestrian access are completely separated from the heavy volume of post office vehicle traffic. The 2,700 square foot vehicle maintenance facility contains two service bays, one wash bay and a fueling station. The maintenance for all regional post office vehicles is done at this facility. The main building structure consists primarily of textured concrete masonry bearing walls, steel roof framing, and supporting concrete columns.
